A Bouncer At A Private Discotheque Learns Why Alcohol Overdose Signs And Symptoms Can Save A Person's Life

Posted in: Miscellaneous

Just two weeks ago, Ryan applied for a position as a bouncer at one of the local clubs. He had studied gatka, ninjitsu, judo, karate, and aikido for eight years; he was a body builder; he took daily vitamins, supplements, and minerals; he was into healthy eating and health foods; and he seemed well matched for such a job. When Ryan got the announcement that he had been chosen for the job, he was very satisfied. Since this was a private disco, nevertheless, he had to go through a three week instructional class.

On the very first day of class, the teacher started talking about individuals who drink excessively and what the bartenders, bouncers, and barmaids should do when this state of affairs arises. When the lecturer started discussing alcohol poisoning, Ryan was happy to find out that all of the new bartenders, bouncers, and barmaids had to learn about an alcohol overdose and precisely what they should do when they noticed a person who was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms or manifesting the signs of alcohol poisoning.

More exactly, all the new barmaids, bouncers, and bartenders learned that nausea and vomiting were almost without exception one of the first signs of alcohol poisoning and that unconsciousness was possibly the most highly identifiable alcohol overdose sign or symptom. The teacher went out of his way to underline the fact that alcohol poisoning symptoms were signals from the body and from the brain that the drinker had ingested more alcohol than his or her body can process.

There were, however, several other symptoms and signs of alcohol poisoning that all the new bartenders, bouncers, and barmaids were taught to be aware of. For instance, the members of the class discovered that individuals with alcohol poisoning exhibit poor reflex responses, often have seizures, exhibit confusion, and they are difficult to awaken.

In addition, the students in the class were made aware that many individuals who experience alcohol poisoning also exhibit slurred speech; little response from painful stimuli, for instance from pinching; blue tinged or pale skin; and slow, shallow or irregular breathing.

To exemplify the influence that binge drinking has on alcohol poisoning, the trainer informed the students in the class that an individual who gets intoxicated once or twice every year is, by definition, involving himself or herself in abusive drinking. Such a person, however, is in all likelihood not an alcohol dependent individual, but is almost certainly engaging in binge drinking. As stated by the lecturer, engaging in binge drinking even once, unfortunately, can lead to an alcohol overdose that in extreme cases can be deadly.

The lecturer then explained to the members of the class that the best response for alcohol poisoning is the following: if it is suspected that a person is suffering from an alcohol overdose, call 911 and ask for immediate medical assistance, even if the person is underage. By pursuing this course of action, the person will get the prompt alcohol poisoning medical attention he or she needs.

After learning about alcohol poisoning and particularly about the symptoms and signs of alcohol poisoning, it may be pointed out, Ryan understood that he had discovered some critical information that might save an individual's life in the distant future. To be sure, Ryan learned that knowledge of the usual alcohol poisoning symptoms and signs and knowing how to quickly and appropriately react to such symptoms and signs (by promptly calling 911 and asking for urgent medical assistance) can help an individual avoid a lethal alcohol overdose.
