Making Fresh Pasta With A Pasta Maker Machine

Posted in: Miscellaneous

Creating fresh pasta isn't as challenging as you may imagine, and the end result is simply delicious, nothing like the stuff you likely usually purchase in your neighborhood shop. While it is feasible to produce fresh pasta without requiring a pasta maker machine, it's pretty hard work and the result, unless of course you're an expert, might not be very good. Pasta makers can be purchased in 2 standard types - the manual hand-crack type and electric powered, both types do essentially perform the same function, though an automatic unit is quicker and much easier to work with and may have added functions.

A classic pasta recipe comprises nothing other than these few ingredients: flour, egg, olive oil, water and salt. The constituents are mixed together, in a food processor, or by hand, up to the point the necessary consistency is reached - if it gets too sticky then you need to add a bit more flour; if it's too dry then you need to add a drop more water. Now, once you've let the dough rest a bit, you have got to knead it for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Now's the time to break out your pasta maker machine. Regardless of which variety of pasta maker you choose, the method is approximately the same.

You adjust the device to the thickest option and roll out the dough by moving it through the machine three or four times - if you own a manual model then you have to turn the handle to do this; an automatic device will pull the dough through for you. Next you alter the machine again, choosing the next lowest thickness option, and put the pasta dough through a few times more. This operation is duplicated until you have a long sheet of smooth pasta. Then you need to cut it to the correct length. Now the 2nd feature of the pasta maker machine comes into play. All models include a pasta cutter to cut the pasta sheet into strips. Simply pick the width you'd like and run the sheets through the pasta cutter. That's all you need to do! Simply leave the finished pasta to dry for an hour or so - a pasta drying rack will assist with this part - and your delicious fresh pasta is ready.
