Video Game Testing - 5 Reasons You Will Be Denied For A Job

Posted in: Miscellaneous

Expert video game testing isn't really that difficult. Believe it or not, you could actually go so far as to say it's an easy job that does not require excessive hard work. All you have to do is boot the game up, play through it, jot down the game's bugs & glitches, then collect your paycheck once you are finished. Seriously, does that sound like a hard job to you? Probably not!

You Should Not Apply For Video Game Tester Jobs When...

- You don't have at least 3 years of gaming experience. In all honesty, you don't need to become a gaming guru who has mastered each and every game out there. But then again, you will have to have basic knowledge of the gaming industry and how game creation works. The more experience and understanding you have, the more well off you will be in terms of finding video game tester jobs.

- You are not at least 18 years old. Some game companies are known to employ (under restrictions) gamers who are 16 years old. Then again, this is generally a rare event in the world of paid beta game testing.

- You do not possess a next-gen system and/or a high-end gaming PC. Having both is better, but either will do. If you are not up-to-date with the latest gaming technology, you don't have any hope at all.

- You don't have a video game testing resume. No resume means absolutely no consideration of any sort, period. Being a video game tester means having to do actual work that HAS TO BE taken seriously. This isn't a spare time activity you do for fun on Sunday -- it's a ACTUAL job.

- You have weak grammar & writing skills. Game testers fill out loads of reports & forms which are used by video game programmers to repair & improve video games. If the reports aren't competently detailed and quickly understood, the software engineers are unable to do their job. If a programmer cannot do his job, it usually means the tester has failed to do his.

If the 5 factors listed above are not an issue for you, then you're indeed a candidate for professional video game testing. All that is left to do would be to begin searching for game tester jobs in your area -- and if you already know where to look, then it will not take you any longer than a week or two!
