SpeedFan – monitor your systems vitals June 15, 2010 by Q
SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers using the built in hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan is primarily use to show the vitals of one’s machine. When minimized, a temperature reading is visible on the system tray. When Speedfan is in an open window you can see a whole lot more. From Fan speed to total voltage, you can view any and all of the current fans.
When you have properly identified which temperature sensor is which, try to lower the speed of each fan and look at reported speed and temperatures. If you do not allow SpeedFan to change any fan speed and set all the speeds too low, then SpeedFan won’t be able to avoid overheating.
We tested it on a few systems, win xp and win7, all worked as advertised. Wehad no issues in a very long testing period, so we canrecommend this one to everyone looking for a freeware monitoring software. There are much more involved and maybe accurate free monitoring software, but if you want a nice good and fairly accurate monitoring tool, you can go and use this one. As a bonus, you can play with a host of other settings if you’re so inclined.
